How people die in Czechia

COVID-19 Deaths in Perspective

When the pandemic started in Europe and more than 100 people died in Italy in a day, that was a turning point for me. Until that time I was not sure whether it is something we should be worried about.

Now the same number has been reached in the Czech Republic, and it is still rising. So I have put together some charts to give you the perspective.

How many people die in the Czech Republic

On an average daily number of deaths from 2009 to 2018 was 298. Yesterday covid’s deaths were more than one-third of average daily deaths. We do not have a total number of deaths (no matter the cause) from yesterday, but it most probably will much higher than 300. Given the excess death, that occurred in the most infected region in the spring.

Comparison with Influenza

I can't believe I still have to compare with the flu. But I still hear sometimes, it's like a flu. No, it's not like a flu.

I admit that flu numbers can be really underestimated. So let's have a look at all respiratory disease (including pneumonia no matter the cause of it)

Comparison with all respiratory disease

Covid deaths on the 20th of October were still 5 times higher.

Comparison of average daily deaths for selected causes with Covid deaths on the 20th of October 2020.

So maybe with the lockdown, depressions can arise and there will be more suicides. But even if suicides will rise 10 times it won't be so many deaths that a too liberal coronavirus approach would cause.

Maybe for some countries, this is obvious. In Czechia we need to go through it the hard way, then we will stop believing stupid theories.
